Heidelberg, September 2002

The castle was constructed in stages over a period of more than 200 years, from 1398 to 1680. It was partly destroyed by French invaders in 1693, and later was used as a source of stone to build houses in the town.

Heidelberg Castle is one of the most spectacular ruins I've seen. Why doesn't this wall fall down? Your browser cannot display JPEG images!   Other parts of the castle are well-preserved, and can be visited. Your browser cannot display JPEG images!
